What I Got at the Postal service Today by Chuck R

All of our DJs receive hundreds of Cd albums a month to consider for airplay. On this regular feature, KCRW DJ Get rid of P catalogues his musical technology bounty from the Post Office weekly.

Nursing your Coachella hangover? You’re not the only one. A friend I spoke in order to yesterday greeted me having a scraggly, “OHHHH GOD… WHAT TIME IS IT?” My spouse and i didn’t have the heart to see him it was nearly 2p. We do hope you got the day off, pal!

The vinyl, the pretty along with the ugly… at the post office.

1) The particular Vinyl = Extra Classic “Congo Rebel” 7″ – Great band featuring, Adrianne Verhoeven, that as “Dri” who released a striking album a few years  back. As outlined by their press release, they place their cue from the dub master, Shelter “Scratch” Pey, creating something authentic and unique. They’ve kindly included any cdr of the tracks, and a couple more, for those of us who choose some megabytes with their plastic-type material. It’s a race regarding 7″ of the week between this one along with the Wild Flag 7″ from File Store Day. I don’t care who wins. They’re also both awesome.

2) The Pretty = new cd’s coming from Atmosphere & Michael J’. Epstein – The Epstein cd is the one housed in a very DVD sized sleeve. Kinda appears like a book.  Neato!  The Atmosphere cd is housed in a soft sleeve which resembles a frame. Actually, it is a frame. The back perhaps folds out so you can perch it on your desktop, but if you don’t like the “baby fist” about the cover, maybe put a photo of your mom or your cat in there. I can give you a picture of my feline if you need one.

3) The actual Ugly = two new cd’s from Alps & True Widow – Sure, ugly describes the minimum promo packaging, but it’utes also a description of the music…in a very good way. These are the kind of visceral sounds that balance out all the cute pop music I hear everyday. Alps is messy atmospheric music designed to agitate along with beautiful sounds and Accurate Widow was described as equal pieces My Bloody Valentine along with Black Sabbath, which is actually very accurate. The labels that introduced these two albums, Kemado and sibling label Mexican Summer, have released some of my favorite audio this year, including the new Puro Behavioral instinct album, “Headbangers In Ecstasy.”

Respectable mentions are a Superchunk remaster/reissue, new Panda Tolerate, Times New Viking and a great digital promo of the new soundtrack to the iPad video game, “Blade & Sworcery,” by Jim Guthrie who had been in thebands, Islands & Royal City. Never got into a video sport soundtrack before, so I’m wanting to do more research in that format.

Hear most of this and so much more tonight.

Cheers,

Chuck P.

My first job was at a Mail Boxes, Etc. and it made me see why workers "went postal", so to speak. –
